Rockets U15s V Ealing Phoenicians

JMA, 19/11/2011

Having not played since 22 October 2011, everyone was eager to get in to this game.  Ealing were a team we had not played before but we were hopeful we could get a result after our last, close run game against Dagenham.

Barking and Dagenham Thunder v Rockets U15s

Dagenham Park School, Dagenham 22/10/11

New opposition and an early start to get to Dagenham for an 11:00 tip meant that we were on the road shortly after 8:00am.  It was a beautiful sunny morning and we had the use of a minibus so we were all looking forward to an excellent game.  Would the atmosphere in the bus on the way back be as cheerful….only time would tell.

With new boys, Craig and Adam in the squad, Rockets were looking forward to their first game of the season at the John Madejski Academy against a tall looking Haringey Hawks.  Having beaten London Greenhouse Pioneers to come third in last season’s Nationals, the Hawks were going to be a very difficult start for the Rockets.  Coach Ben gave the pre-match talk and everyone was raring to go.

Rockets U15 V Maidstone Warriors

John Madejski Academy 08/10/2011

It was our first time playing Maidstone Warriors so they were an unknown force to us.  What a game it turned out to be though.  Pity that Rod was in London and could not be there to do a proper match report.

Having scored first, Rockets seemed unable to capitalise on this advantage and leaked six straight baskets on the bounce.  It wasn’t looking good and we were playing catch-up basketball for most of the first quarter.  But it was when Maidstone hit their team fouls limit in the 7th minute that we started our comeback, scoring two baskets in the final minute to close the quarter 10-14 down.

London Pioneers V Rockets U14

Little Venice Sports Complex 21/11/2010 @ 12:00am

Having made the trip to London, with the minimum number of players, but with Callum slightly ill and Brad carrying two injuries, it felt somewhat mean on the team and on Al Tayeb, for the referee to tell him that he would not be permitted to play due to issues with his player registration

Rockets U14 V Solent Kestrels

Academy Sports Centre, Reading  15/01/2011

Christmas was not helpful since our last league game in November; weeks of sitting in front of the telly, over-eating and drinking, losing fitness, terrible ipod music…..and that was just Ben.  The team however were in top form and keen to go for our first league game of 2011.

Today it was the turn of the league leaders, Solent Kestrels, who remain unbeaten in all four of their matches so far.  We were expecting a very tough review.

Feltham Warriors V Rockets U14

Feltham Community College, Fletham  12/02/2011

It is not often that I weep tears of sadness, but so it was today!  They gave everything they had…….they started to believe that they could do it……they came so close and were even leading…….I was shouting and screaming encouragement …….my heart was beating as though it would explode……but in the end, it was snatched from them in the dying minutes.  Enough about Ireland’s six nations defeat at the hands of the French, we are here to read about the basketball game at Feltham this morning.

Rockets U14 V London Greenhouse Pioneers II

John Madejski Academy, Reading 19/02/2011

The last time we met London Greenhouse Pioneers was in November 2010 and we ended up playing an emotion charged game with a big score against us in Little Venice.  They currently sit second in the table so it was with eagerness and some trepidation that we warmed up for the home match at the John Madejski Academy. Rockets U14 v Feltham Warriors

Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading 05/03/2011

On 12 February 2011 we travelled to Feltham to take on the Warriors and ended up 4 points down in a thrilling game which we lost in the last minute. But today could we step up and make it count....could we run the ball, pressure the ball, dictate the pace of the game and make Feltham play "Rocket ball"? Read more...
