Harrison and Louis named in the Under 18 England men's squad

Reading Rockets Under 18 stars Harrison Gamble and Louis Sayers have been selected in the final twelve to represent their country in this year's European Championships which will be held in Israel in just over a week's time. Both players have been playing with the squad in the build up to the tournament and have travelled to Cherbourg, Bristol, Belgium, and most recently Kingston where both featured in the well known Future Stars tournament. Both received the news whilst away in Belgium and it is the first time in the Club's history that two Rockets players have featured in the same International team.

Both Sayers and Gamble moved from their respective homes in Peterborough and Hersham two years ago to join the club and play in one of Rockets academies at Thames Valley University where they have trained everyday under Rockets Director of Coaching Matt Johnson, as well as receiving significant input from JP Campbell, who is the current Rockets Under 18s Head Coach, and former men's team coaches Sasa Punosevac and Dave Titmuss. It was during this season that both players broke into the Rockets men's senior team, with Sayers ending up playing a significant part in Rockets season as well as being in the top five 3 point shooters in the country at Division One level.

Rockets Director of Coaching Matt Johnson, who is also currently away on International duty with the GB Under 20's Women's programme, is very proud of both players' achievements. He said, 'Both Louis and Harrison have made magnificant strides since they joined us two years ago. Both have natural talent but have worked harder than any other players to get to where they have and achieve the honour of representing their country. I am delighted for both players and extremely proud they will be representing their club and country at the European Championships this summer - a great accolade for any player in their given sport.

England's first game is against the host nation Israel on Thursday 22nd July and both players will be looking to make an impression as soon as the tournament gets started. In commenting on his inclusion in the squad, Louis Sayers was delighted to be included in the final twelve and represent his country on the International stage. He said, 'I am thrilled to be part of the England Under 18 team and am really looking forward to playing in Israel and helping the team as much as I can to achieve success. It will be a tough tournament but a challenge I am more than ready for!'
