Reading Rockets Hoops For Health Final 2010

On Saturday 3rd April saw the Reading Rockets Hoops for Health final at Rivermead Leisure Complex between Christ The King RC Primary School and The Ridgeway Primary School. This is the first year that Rockets have run the Hoops for Health programme and it has been a huge success in the South Reading area.

Seven schools in the area received healthy living workshops delivered by the Rockets professional players and coaches followed by a 6 week course of basketball sessions that were delivered after school for the children on the programme.

In March all the schools took part in an area tournament at the John Madejski Academy in  South Reading which saw both Christ The King and The Ridgeway make it through to the final.

The final was a fantastic event which saw a close fought game between the two schools. With only 6 points in it with a minute to go there was all to play for. However The Ridgeway with a bigger squad to select from pulled away at the end to win 22-14.

Steph Johnson, Director of Hoops for Health was over the moon with the schools' involvement in the programme. “The programme has been a great success and the schools involved have worked really hard to get the children to the tournaments and support them whilst they were there. A very successful first year for the club.”

The Ridgeway School will now travel to Birmingham on May the 8th where they will compete in the National Hoops For Health Final at the NIA. A fantastic achievement for the school - well done
