Rockets to re-launch Satellite Clubs in September!

Reading Rockets Junior Development Team will be kicking off the 2009/2010 season with the re-launch of their current Satellite Clubs - Caversham, Earley, Maidenhead, Tilehurst, and Windsor Rockets as well as launching two new Clubs in Didcot and South Reading. Rockets Head of Development Matt Johnson explains that these Clubs are 'essential to the infrastructure and development of the Reading Rockets and will produce the future players of the junior and indeed senior programme.' Watch this space for more information on where you can be playing basketball....!

 

Statisticians Required

Reading Rockets Coaching Staff are creating a statistics team for the upcoming 2009/10 season.

We are looking to recruit a team of volunteers to cover the Mens Division 1 and 4 games.

Basketball Academy at the University of Reading

Over the past 3 years both partners have been busying themselves with the vital foundations that are required to build a sustainable and successful system of delivery. And the results have been very impressive-With 2 back to back promotions and a recently undefeated season the Men's basketball programme at Reading is fast becoming a real player in the competitive world of student sport.

Rockets & BBL Trophy

Having accepted an invitation to participate in this competition, Rockets have drawn one of the very top teams in the BBL, Newcastle Eagles.

Rockets have a home tie, the date is yet to be finalised, but scheduled for early 2010.... what a way to start the next decade. Eagles have won 4 of the 5 BBL Play Off championships and did the treble last season.

More details when the date and time has been confirmed.

 

Rockets Head Coach

Since Coach Titmuss's resignation last week, despite not being proactive Rockets Chairman Gary Johnson has had interest from coaches from as far afield as Russia and the USA. He and his son Matt, who heads up the whole development programme will be principally involved in the selection of the new Head Coach and firmly believe the process will be completed this month.

TitmussAfter a unique season in English basketball history when they swept all domestic honours in senior men's EBL competition and posted a perfect 36 – 0 record, Gary Johnson, the Reading Rockets chairman together with head coach Dave Titmuss and development director Matt Johnson have spoken about their plans for the club and explained why the timing is not yet right to enter the BBL.

Rockets Achieve AASE Status!

Following a successful proposal to England Basketball, Reading Rockets Basketball Club have achieved approval to deliver the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). The AASE will be operated across the club's 2 flagship Academies TVU Reading and The Henley College in its first year.

In its second year of delivery the NVQ award will be utilised across the board in ALL Rockets Academies with Windsor Boys School and John Madejski Academy (JMA) playing an important role in continuing the program’s success through to its third year.

The award of the AASE will signal an important chapter in the clubs history and development. It is hoped that along with this the club will be best placed to develop its junior program and players as well as attract other elite athletes to the club.

 

Watts & Titmuss win Two "Double" Awards

David 'Tin-Tin' Watts and Coach Dave Titmuss have added to their excellent season by being awarded  the Player of the season and Coach of the season in 2 separate award publications.

Coach T and Tin-Tin won the EBL awards, and repeated the feat in the EuroBasket.com awards. Terell Smith and Ryan Lohfink also featured in the Eurobasket teams of the season.

Rockets U18s - Buzzer Beater Wins Bronze

As one of England's top four Under 18 squads, the Reading Rockets headed to RAF Cosford last weekend to battle out the final placings. The RAF were celebrating the 10th anniversary of sponsoring junior basketball in this country and all 4 teams put on a superb spectacle for their supporters. Rockets had been well prepared for these games by their coaches and faced Derby Trailblazers in their semi final, strong contenders with 3 international players and the eventual winners of the Final Fours.
