Welcome to Reading Rockets

Rockets 84 Medway Park Crusaders 72

With Rockets best overall performance of the season to date including a brilliant first half, they thoroughly deserved this 12 point victory away at Medway Crusaders.  16 year old Luke Nelson was outstanding hitting 6 from 6 from the line in the last minute of the game.  Luke top scored with 19 points with Captain Ryan Lohfink leading by example hitting 16 and giving a tenacious performance, with Robbie Parker and Kastytis Normantas on 14 each, though Normantas had to sit out the fourth h quarter and certainly tomorrow's game with a pulled hamstring.

Rockets will be at home tomorrow (Sunday) when they take on Tees Valley Mohawks at Rivermead at 4 pm.

Full report to follow.

Rockets and the BBL

Reading Rockets have submitted an application to join the British Basketball League. We have passed the initial assessment and now have to submit a comprehensive business plan and full financial model, coupled to a marketing and PR programme.

Rockets’ chairman Gary Johnson feels now is the right time for the club to move up into the top flight. "We have submitted the initial application which has been accepted, now we have to prepare our full application within the next two weeks, so we’re seeking key partners and sponsors to agreements with other stakeholders as well as support from our venue, Rivermead Leisure Complex".

Rockets back in action with double header weekend

Reading Rockets will return to the court after a weekend off when they travel to Kent on Saturday to face Medway Park Crusaders (5pm tip-off) before returning home to take on Tees Valley Mohawks in an action-packed day on Sunday at Rivermead (4pm tip-off). Rockets currently lie just outside the play-off positions in 9th place with a record of five wins and six losses and will be looking for two wins this weekend to put themselves right back into contention in the run up to the post season. Saturday's opponents Medway Park Crusaders have enjoyed their first season in the top-flight of English basketball as they currently sit in fifth position with eight wins and five losses to their name, whilst Sunday's visitors Tees Valley Mohawks have found wins hard to come by this season as they reside second from bottom with only two wins and eleven losses to their name.

Rockets' Senior Men have weekend off

Reading Rockets are not in competitive action this weekend as they take a break from league and trophy action before the final two months of the regular season. The Rockets' last three games have all been decided by a single point with the Berkshire club winning their National Trophy quarter-final clash away to Brixton Topcats by 70 points to 69, however that was in between a pair of 76-75 losses at the hands of both Leicester Warriors and Derby Trailblazers at Rivermead Leisure Complex in the league. Four straight losses in the league have left the Reading outfit just outside of the play-off positions for the first time since they entered EBL Division One as the Berkshire club sit in ninth place with a record of five wins and six losses heading into the second part of the season. Rockets are however only four games back from league leaders Bristol Academy Flyers and only one win away from a play-off position with 13 games still to play and a mouth-watering National Trophy semi-final approaching in two weeks time away to Derby Trailblazers.

Rockets edged out by Trailblazers

For the third consecutive game, Rockets were in a game won by only one point, and this time they were just edged by title chasing Derby Trailblazers by 76 - 75.

In each of the three games between Rockets and Trailblazers this season the away team has been victorious, so Rockets will look to the return in the National Trophy semi final at Derby in three weeks time.

Top scorers for Rockets were Ryan Lohfink 19, Harrison Gamble 15 and Kastytis Normantas 13.
