Reading Rockets will make an unprecedented second league trip to Taunton on Sunday (4pm tip-off) where they will face the Tigers for a second time at the Wellsprings Leisure Centre due to multiple venue problems in Reading.
The Berkshire club had to re-arrange this fixture originally but have been unable to find any venue in the County to stage this game before the season is completed due to their regular home venue Rivermead being once again unavailable. Rockets Chairman Gary Johnson could not find any alternative but to travel back down to Taunton to play what is in fact Rockets home fixture. He said, 'Rivermead was unfortunately unavailable again and we couldn't find a venue anywhere within Berkshire that would be able to host us and with the end of the season getting ever closer we had no alternative but to travel back down to the South West to play this fixture.'
It will be the second time the two teams have met with the Rockets coming out on top on both occasions winning comfortably in their first encounter by 86 points to 69, however, they were pegged back in the second game where they recorded a narrow 81-76 point win in the National Trophy Quarter-Final. Rockets top scorers in the first game were 17 year old Louis Sayers with 22 points and Robbie Parker with 20 points and in the second game it was Rockets two American Players Ryan Lohfink and Kenny Saunders who scored 28 and 11 respectively.
The Rockets are coming off the back of an excellent weekend where they recorded two vital wins over basement side Tees Valley Mohawks, and more impressively against joint league leaders Derby Trailblazers. Head Coach Matt Johnson was a pleased man after last weekend triumph's and is looking forward to his team's encounter this weekend. He said, 'Last weekend's win over Derby was a fantastic result for us and showed what progress we have made this season. I was so pleased for the guys and we can now start to see the time that Coach Sasa (Punosevac) was with us is now in fact starting to pay off. I am hopeful we can kick on from what was an excellent weekend all round when we travel to Taunton this weekend in what is another vital game for us as we look to continue to improve performance and ultimately climb up the table.'
Having played the Tigers twice, the Rockets will be very aware of the threats their opposition possess and Team Analyst Ben Fisher knows his team are in for a stern test. He said, 'This weekend's game is going to be another tough game - to be honest I don't think now there is an easy game in this division. We are having to travel to Taunton for the second time in the league due to multiple venue issues, however we can certainly take great confidence from our away victory at Derby last weekend. We know lots about Taunton and what they are capable of. Coach (Tom) Kambouris has assembled a really good group down there, led by American Chris Page. They have one of our former players (Simon Kearney) as well as some excellent English talent so we are once again in a battle in this must win game for both teams.'
Rockets go into the game with only one injury worry in Belgian Point Guard Fenny Falmange who despite playing in both of last weekend's wins looks to be a doubt for this weekend's trip to Taunton. The 5'9 European aggravated his knee injury during Sunday's win over Tees Valley and Rockets will be sweating on his fitness as they look to build on their good start under new Head Coach Matt Johnson.'
