John Madejski Academy Basketball Programme

Over the past 3 years the Rockets have been working very closely with JMA and are now very pleased to be able to say that there is a flourishing programme of basketball embedded within the school structure.

JMA is a newly built modern secondary Sports College for students from years 7-13 and offers an impressive range of sports of which basketball is one of 3 focus sports.

Starting in September ‘09 JMA will now also be offering a 6th form academy programme to complement their already popular basketball programme for all year groups.

The current programme at the school starts with early morning sessions from 7:15 am-8:20 am each morning.

These sessions allow all elite basketball players to work on individual skills and drills in a controlled environment.

During the school day academy players will be able to access a series of individual sessions aimed at specific improvement of shooting, ball handling, defending and passing.

The players will also be tested on a regular basis and results compared on an 8 weekly basis.

After school sessions will be team based and aimed at improving the individual skills within the more complex environment of team play.

All athletes will represent the school in all fixtures and will compete in the Berkshire Leagues and Cups each season.

Through the close relationship with the Rockets Basketball club all players in the Academy system will get the opportunity to try out for places in the Rockets National League programme.

NB: All places at the JMA academy will be subject to a basketball trial and a separate interview for the 6th form.
