History of Reading Rockets Basketball Club

Rockets celebrated its 10th aniversery last season, having achieved huge success with its Senior, Junior and Community development programmes. Rockets is now one of the biggest clubs in England and has gained Sport England's kitemark 'ClubMark' and England Basketball's 5 star accreditation.

The heart of the Rockets club is passion, vision, quality, motivation and commitment - unified with family values and standards. The Senior Men's team plays its home games at the Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading and comprises players with experience of the USA game, Europe and of National Senior Divisions coupled to young blood. Our vision of facilitating opportunities for youngsters to come up through the ranks of the junior section and play in the Senior National League has been realised bringing much reward to coaches, mentors and players alike.

The Senior teams represent the target for the 1000 or so youngsters that are coached each week in the community and satellite club programme. Rockets takes children from complete beginners, then coaches and develops their individual talent with team dynamics.

The Senior Men's team has completed its most successful season ever by winning the National Trophy and finishing League runners up whilst our Under 18s won the treble, creating more Rockets history. As a stepping stone into the Senior Men's team, there are men's teams that play in the National Division 4 and in the Regional Wessex leagues.

Rockets runs a Basketball Academy at TVU and another as an integral part of the John Madejski Academy.
